“U.S. President Barack Obama said he doesn’t think marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol, “in terms of its impact on the individual consumer.”
“As has been well documented, I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life. I don’t think it is more dangerous than alcohol,” the president said an interview with The New Yorker magazine.
Smoking marijuana is “not something I encourage, and I’ve told my daughters I think it’s a bad idea, a waste of time, not very healthy,” Obama said.”
…….It appears to Me, that Obama, still is not up-to-date with medical research. Smoking ANYTHING at all could be detrimental to ones’ health. However, where cannabis consumers and medical marijuana advocates differ on the subject matter is that they do not shy away from telling this truth. There exists a concept called “Harm Reduction” with Cannabis consumption. This is by means of, reducing ones’ exposure to potentially hazardous effects of “smoking”.. users can skirt this by infusing THC into baked goods to get good pain relief. One other method is to use a vaporizer to reduce the amount of “smoke” one is required to inhale to get the desired medicinal benefits.
A quick search online can reveal, that Cannabis has an array of uses for many ailments. I wouldn’t be so quick to tout that its “very unhealthy”. However, I understand, he is putting on the act of “being a fatherly figure” by discouraging drug use from his daughters. Thats fine. But to say its “not very healthy” is not a well documented argument.
Stoner’s can equally eat healthy, its your choice if you decide to stuff your face full of ice cream, donuts, and burgers … but if you are a “health-Conscious” Stoner, you may opt to have snacks such as carrots and dip handy, or some low-fat yogurt with granola.. it all boils down to the individual.. after all, it is the individual who owns their health anyway……
My arugement, is this, if smoking cannabis helps sick people, then how does it harm or hurt/hinder healthy people? Until research has been done to prove marijuana as a “health hazard” to healthy individuals, then we can say, that marijuana consumption is relatively safe in contrast of the ‘legal drugs’ already available for consumption in society.
What people do behind the closed doors of their home, as long as no one is being harmed, or someone’s safety being put in jeopardy, and as long as no one’s basic human rights are being infringed upon, then, to me it is none of the government’s business, to tell you, what you can and cannot consume or put in your physical body.
Our body is a vessel we rent anyway, its a vessel to communicate through, to experience the human experience through and so… there exists no time for governments to try and tell me how to SAIL your ship or my ship, because the SHIP has already Sailed!
